"[On Light and the Machines ] The Still City's emo-inflected rock has taken a giant leap forward...Ryan Murphy's synth lines are front and center next to Brendan Gann's percussive bass lines...Brandon Roth's supernaturally kinetic drumming roughens the edges and keeps the songs hurtling forward....Brian Knab's vocals seem stronger, more emotive and confident than before, giving tracks like "Sleepwalkers for Life" and the Cure-like "A Bedroom and a Parking Spot" a raw sincerity and power." - The Westword

"...singer/guitarist, Brian Knab, has a true gift for turning a phrase until it corkscrews your heart..." - The Onion A/V Club

"...There’s never been a better time to get into local music, and The Still City is definitely running with the cream of the crop." -Kaffeine Buzz

"...a Weakerthans-meets-the-North-Atlantic art-rock retrogression that is both daringly immature and fully admirable..." -The Westword

Since their onset in mid 2006, The Still City has been pulling on
heartstrings and tugging the emotions of listeners and audiences
around Colorado’s front range. All thanks to their dynamic song
writing, thoughtful lyrics and intense live performances. Founding
members – Brian Knab (guitar/Vocals), Ryan Murphy (guitar) and Brandon
Roth (drums) all grew up together in the tiny Colorado Springs suburb
of Monument and have been playing music together since their high
school days.

The Still City put out their full length We Will Explain Everything in
January 2010 which has been receiving rave local reviews. This
independent release provides an emotional auditory mountain range with
peaks, valleys and plateaus that demands a start-to-finish experience.
But when it’s over, they’re going to want it all over again to fully
absorb Knab’s beautifully poetic messages. From the rocking title
track We Will Explain Everything to the dark, folky The Thought of
Your Bones, each track brings a new light to the band while keeping
its fluidity throughout. It’s a testament to their maturity over past
recordings.

While originally pulling from influences like Denver’s own dance-punk
band, The Photo Atlas, as well as Bright Eyes, Spoon and some of the
edgier 90s grunge, The Still City has matured with their own sound of
scattered melodies mixed with driving rhythms and ethereal keyboards.
Singer Brian Knab, who has been studying philosophy for years, pours
out his heart with melodies and lyrics that are so detailed every
listener is pulled immediately into the story. The addition of
bassist/backing vocalist Jeff Wiencrot has added a fresh layer of
harmonies and driving bass lines that push the band to a new level,
which earned them a Westword nomination for Denver’s Best Indie-Rock
Band 2009 and 20010 as well as spots on the Denver Post’s Underground
Music Showcase 2009 and 2010.
